The
Children’s Rehabilitation Center joined other child rights organizations
(Salinlahi Alliance for Children’s Concerns; Parents’ Alternative on ECCD,
Association for the Rights of Children in Southeast Asia) in Sitio Olandes, Marikina City.
A total of 300 families were given a basic relief pack (rice, sardines,
noodles and clothes) last September 29, through the help of the Citizen’s
Disaster Response Center (CDRC) and the Gabriela Women’s Party. Day 1 of the relief operations prioritized families
whose children were participants of of the Olandes Batibot Early Learning
Center (OBELC) program. Another relief
operation will be held tomorrow to continue reaching out to the other residents
of the area.

On July 21-24, 2009, Kyle Baleva, a 12 year old Filipino boy currently living in The Netherlands, will join the INTERNATIONAL FOUR-DAY MARCHES IN NIJMEGEN, popularly known as WALK OF THE WORLD. This annual walkathon is joined by thousands of people around the world.
Last January 31, 2010 at around 8:00 PM, a fourteen-year old fisherman and his companions went fishing at San Fabian, Pangasinan. Soon after they reached the part where to place their fishing nets, they heard gun shots pointing at their direction. Behind their boat were rubber boats that carried elements of Philippine National Police (PNP) patrolling at that time to catch illegal fishers. The gun shots continued and were pointed exactly at their direction.

The Children’s Rehabilitation Center is gravely concerned at the renewed attack of the Armed Forces of the Philippines against the Moro people in the guise of war against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in the provinces covering the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao. With the scuttled peace talks following the non-signing of the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain by the government panel, the military attack once again escalated to an alarming proportions affecting hundreds of thousands of people. We call the attention
of and seek support from organizations and individuals from all sectors of
society, relating to a crisis affecting women and children in Lianga, Surigao,
in Mindanao. More than 1,700 individuals,
mostly children, have been displaced after their communities were militarized
since June 18.
