PINOY KID JOINS WALK OF THE WORLD FOR THE SECOND YEAR TO SUPPORT MORE CHILDREN OF HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION VICTIMS IN THE PHILS.

For the second consecutive year, 13 year-old Kyle Baleva again joined theInternational Four-Day Marches, also known as the “Walk of theWorld” in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, along with 45,000 people from different parts of the world. The event started July 20 and ends onJuly 23, 2010.

The plight of children of human rights victims, particularly victims ofsummary execution and enforced disappearances, will again serve as his inspiration to walk 30 kilometers a day and a total of 120kilometers to raise funds for these orphans under the Children'sRehabilitation Center’s Orphan Support Program through the “AHand for An Orphan” project .

We are very happy that Kyle has been consistent in his advocacy to raiseawareness and support for orphaned children in the Philippines,”stated Ma. Esmeralda Macaspac, Executive Director of the Children'sRehabilitation Center.

Macaspac cited that in 2009 alone, CRC has monitored about 65 children whose parents have been killed for political reasons. This year, after therecent presidential elections in May, 3 activists have already been killed. One of them, Fernando Baldomero, a Bayan Muna member in Aklan was killed in front of his 12-year old son just recently. “Even as the Arroyo government ended its regime of blood and a newgovernment emerges, human rights violations still continue with impunity and children continue to lose their parents to military violence,” Macapac said. “That is why Kyle's advocacy remains relevant and we are very grateful for his persistence.”

Baleva,a son of Pinoy migrantsin The Netherlands joined the “Walk of the World” in July 2009 when he was just 12 years old. Through pledges for every mile he finished, he was able to raise money fromthe walkathon to the Orphan Support Program of CRC. The 2000 donation was able to help six (6) orphaned children who were inthe program. These children were able to receive nutritional, educational and medical assistance for one year. This time, Kylehopes to raise the amount to 3000 in order to help more children.

CRChas been helping children victims and children of victims of humanrrights violations recover from the traumatic experience of politicalviolence by providing psycho-social processing and other supportservices such as education, medical and legal assistance.
